2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Poor Feedback

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full content from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the time to follow.

David
