Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
