A person who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the location in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The man played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the police once more.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
